PROJECTS

  1. FOSTER CARE PROGRAMME
At present AEDU- Sri Lanka (Batticaloa District is 15 children who have lost either parents or the bread-winner of the family. These children and the families are receiving financial assistance monthly. Financial assistance varies from SL R 1,500 to SLR 2000 per month.
This assistance is given to keep the children in the community with the mother or relatives to avoid unnecessary institutionalisation (To avoid placing them in the children homes/ orphanages unnecessarily). AEDU-Sri Lanka (Batticaloa District) members select the children by visiting them personally. Once the child is identified for help, a joint bank account is opened for the child with the mother or the guardian. AEDU-Sri Lanka (Batticaloa District) members pay regular visits to see that these children are being looked after by the mother or the guardian to acceptable standards. This includes checking the physical well-being, mental well-being and progress in education. If the child is not being looked after by the mother or the relatives or the school attendance is poor the financial assistance may be discontinued after warning.
