How We Work

AEDU-in Sri Lanka aims to achieve its vision by cooperating and collaborating with other charitable and Diaspora organisations.

AEDU-in Sri Lanka will be registered in their respective districts and function as independent charities within the boundaries of that district.

The committee comprises of credible people who will work towards implementing the AEDU-in Sri Lanka Vision .They will be supported by a group of well-wishers at each Divisional secretarial level. This group will include heads of all schools in that area .All of these people invests their time on a voluntary basis. Programs and projects will be formulated by this group of people which will add meaning and substance to the lives of underprivileged children. ADEU-International will endeavour to support these projects directly or partner other donor organisations for support.

Each district is given the discretion to raise or receive funds from multiple organisations. At the end of the year, each district will submit the annual account and annual report comprising all the projects and activities undertaken during the period. This will ensure transparency and accountability.

Implementing Foster care

AEDU-in Sri Lanka promotes and implements foster care. Seeking an orphanage is the last resort, this will be in circumstances where foster care is not suitable for a child or prevailing ground conditions not hinder the implementation of such care.

Data and information of orphans and underprivileged children will be collected by the members.

The committee will visit these identified children personally and verify the details based on which recommendations are made for financial assistance and monitoring.

AEDU-in Sri Lanka will endeavor to identify donors in the Diaspora community and other donor agencies for each and every child. Once a donor is established, a bank account will be opened for each child with the parent or the guardian to whom financial assistance will be channeled on a monthly basis.

Committees in each of these districts will monitor the general wellbeing and development of these children in collaboration with the schools and volunteers at the divisional secretarial level.

If children are found to be exploited by their foster parents, guardians or parents, AEDU-in Sri Lanka may make a recommendation to place these children in an orphanage or a hostel as the last resort. It will be a temporary measure until suitable foster care is found; the support for these children will be ongoing during this transition period as well.

Assistance from the department of probation and child care staff will be requested for monitoring the projects as and when the need may arise.

Children who cannot cope with School education will receive guidance in vocational training and education and financial assistance will continue until they finish this training.
