APPEAL

HELP A CHILD TODAY

Small Contribution for Big Change

The ravages of the Civil war spanning for over 2 decades and the Tsunami disaster of 2004 have brought immense hardships into the lives of many thousands of children in the North and East regions of Sri Lanka. Many children have lost both parents and many families have lost their bread winner.
Orphanages were the only sanctuary for these children until the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004. During the aftermath of the Tsunami, the Department of Probation and Child Care along with UNICEF recommended the retention of these children in the community fostered by a relative or friend. There are numerous orphanages in the North and East regions. These house children who have lost one or both parents. There are numerous children who are in institutional care even though both parents are alive. They are placed in orphanages by parents as they are unable to provide the bare necessities due to poverty.
These regions saw a sudden surge of orphans into the community following the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004. In addition, repeated displacement due to civil war and natural disasters and becoming refugees have compelled many vulnerable already underprivileged children to lose their school education and many thousands of children are dropping out of school each year. The recent escalation of violence has lead to untold suffering and many became orphans.
AEDU-International was established in 2004 to support the children affected by the Tsunami and War.One of the main objectives of the AEDU-International is to implement foster care.
